About Our Historic Bed & Breakfast near Lake Michigan

Built in 1925 in the blossoming lakefront town of South Haven, the Glassman Resort was considered a full-service resort. All meals were prepared and served in the dining hall, which featured twenty foot ceilings, crystal chandeliers and beautiful maple floors. At the time, the majority of guests arrived via steamships crossing Lake Michigan.

By the 1960s, the resort industry was suffering, and many properties fell prey to neglect or fires. Few resorts remained.

In 1989, Jan and her husband purchased Victoria Resort Bed and Breakfast. The property was in terrible condition and had an even worse reputation around town. Jan’s parents even took her aside to question if she viewed the property before making the purchase. The first couple of years were intensely hands-on with a series of major remodeling projects and the daily operation of the business. As the property improved, more reservations were booked, allowing for more projects and improvements.

Decades later, the inn still maintains the vintage flavor of the original structure. The original five-panel wood doors, decorative door handles and unique hinges are still in place. In many rooms, the original closets are still in place – tiny by today’s home standards, but perfect for a visit to the area. Original hallway doors were repurposed for the bathroom doors in the King Deluxe and Queen Deluxe rooms. In Cottage B and Cottage C, the original transoms are still in working order above the bedroom doors.

From the exterior, Victoria Resort Bed and Breakfast appears the same as it did nearly a hundred years ago. With today’s comforts in mind, many guest rooms feature whirlpool tubs, fireplaces, large flat-screen televisions, Wi-Fi, small private refrigerators and, of course, all have private baths. The guest cottages also retain that vintage feel, but offer full kitchens, flat-screen televisions, Wi-Fi and some even feature real wood-burning fireplaces and whirlpool tubs.

At Victoria Resort Bed and Breakfast, we are always working to keep the charm of yesteryear while providing the comforts of today…and helping create those memories of tomorrow.
